Creating places for people

The Northwest’s open space is a valuable resource that all too often is wasted or ignored. Around 25% of all derelict land in the UK is in England’s Northwest - more than any other region.

Groundwork helps people turn derelict land and waste ground into attractive and valuable spaces from small community gardens or allotments to major new parks or sports facilities. We passionately believe that all open spaces should be valuable resources for local communities and we aim to create landscapes that achieve this vision – promoting better health, community cohesion and biodiversity and supporting economic prosperity.

Throughout our work we ensure that people are fully involved in designing and improving the spaces that matter to them. We focus on reconnecting people of all ages with their surroundings, helping to restore a sense of ownership and pride in their local neighbourhood and achieve a better quality of life.
