Organisations operating Environmental Management Systems (EMS’s) must ensure that their systems are operating effectively and as planned. The internal audit is a mandatory requirement of all formal Environmental Management Systems and provides a systematic method of ensuring compliance. 

 The primary aim of this course is to provide delegates with an understanding of the make-up of Environmental Management Systems such as ISO 14001 and the techniques to audit them. It has been structured so as to reflect the principles of the Management Systems Auditing Standard ISO 19011.

 

Course Outline

The course shall allow delegates to:

•       plan and scope an audit

•       develop checklists for systems and compliance audits

•       Use physical and other types of evidence to test the effectiveness of the 
         EMS

•       demonstrate good interview techniques

•       corroborate evidence from different sources

•       keep good working papers

•       evaluate audit findings according to significance

•       write audit reports

•       formulate action plans based on audit findings

 

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at people who are, or will be, involved in an EMS internal audit process. Delegates may include systems auditors, line managers, environmental champions, or Quality / Health and Safety professionals who may be moving towards a multiple audit role.

Accreditation:

Assessed by multiple choice examination, coursework and essay examination.
